In the coming years, the Port of Klaipeda should undergo a radical transformation from a “gateway to the world” to a “port of energy”. In the future, it is hoped that Klaipėda Port will become an energy hub, not just a cargo or shipbuilding and repair base.

GREEN PORT: HYDROGEN PRODUCTION AND REFILLING STATION
In 2026, the Port of Klaipėda will start operating the first public hydrogen refuelling station which will be available to businesses and residents.

Development of the southern part of the port is a new perspective for Lithuanian industry and exports.

In 2026, the Port of Klaipėda will start operating shore-side electricity supply stations for ships, which will be able to connect 4 ships at a time.
The Green Fleet of the Port of Klaipeda Authority
In an effort to increase its focus on environmental pollution, the Port Authority is renewing its fleet with modern and environmentally friendly equipment.
JURBARKAS RIVER PORT
The future vision of Jurbarkas Port is to become a modern and sustainable inland waterway freight transport hub that will strengthen Lithuania’s domestic logistics system and open up new opportunities to transport large volumes of cargo by river in a single operation.
Fleet base
In the southern part of Klaipėda Port, on Marių Street, a modern fleet base was opened, that will house all of the port’s specialized equipment and serve as a new home for the Port Authority’s vessels.

The goal is to promote the energy transition of the Baltic Sea region and its ports by implementing renewable blue energy and ensuring the availability of green fuels in the maritime sector.
Project MERLIN
The Port of Klaipėda, together with 17 partners from various European countries, will jointly develop innovative technologies for the maritime industry.
During the project, long-duration autonomous surface and underwater vessels powered by hydrogen fuel cells and renewable energy will be developed.

H2-Derivatives@BalticSeaPorts initiative will
enable ports across the Baltic Sea Region to
adopt hydrogen-based derivatives – like
methanol and ammonia – as viable alternatives
to fossil fuels.
Project Moveo
MOVEO is a European research and innovation project funded under Horizon Europe. Its
goal is to enhance multimodal mobility through intelligent systems that improve tra2ic
flow, sustainability, and resilience across Europe’s transport networks
