The goal of the MISSION project, in which the Klaipėda Port Authority is participating, is to digitize the maritime sector to enhance safety at sea and protect human health, while also reducing traffic congestion in ports, associated costs, and greenhouse gas emissions.
The project will develop an interoperable digital system (IT tool) based on real-time data, which will help optimize, coordinate, and execute planned port entry operations, considering time, fuel consumption, environmental impact, and safety throughout the maritime supply chain. This will ensure greater transparency and better information exchange between shipping companies, terminals, ports, and service providers, allowing for optimized resource and capacity planning in compliance with the Maritime Labour Convention.
The project also aims to develop new software systems for the shipping industry that will enhance maritime efficiency and safety. This system will integrate and expand existing systems with “precise arrival time” features and port entry capabilities, allowing stakeholders to communicate effectively with each other. It is expected that these improvements will reduce fuel consumption by up to 23%.

The MISSION project involves numerous partners from various European countries. The participating organizations include: University of Southern Denmark, “Aboa Mare,” the Italian Maritime Transport Research Center CETENA, the Finnish Technology Research Center VTT, as well as the ports of Hamburg, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Klaipėda, Trieste, Valencia, Geneva, Immingham, Piraeus, shipping companies, and technology firms. Participation in this project provides significant benefits to the Klaipėda Port Authority:
Contribution to this project will open up wide opportunities for companies not only to improve their operational efficiency and competitiveness but also to contribute to achieving global environmental goals. This will open up new perspectives and allow them to secure strong positions in future markets.
