KLAIPEDA is the third largest and most populous city in Lithuania. The city stretches 15 kilometers along the Curonian Lagoon and 3 kilometers wide. Occupying an area of 98 km2 and having 150,000 inhabitants, Klaipeda can be classified as a medium-sized European city.
Klaipeda is a particularly important industrial, cultural and transport center of the country with the only universal and non-freezing port in the country. Thanks to the favorable geographical position of the city, the convenient system of international and local transport networks and its well-developed infrastructure, guests of the city can easily and quickly reach Klaipeda from anywhere in the world.
Klaipeda is the oldest city in Lithuania and one of the oldest on the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea, distinguished by its unique 18th century half-timbered architecture. In the city, you can visit the Castle Museum, established on the site of the Memelburg Castle, the Lithuanian Maritime Museum and Dolphinarium with a rich exposition, the unique Museums of Clocks, Blacksmiths, Little Lithuania, the famous Anike Square, as well as the old post office, which is famous for the sound of the carillon.
The city is justifiably proud of its long-standing annual Sea Festival, which attracts more than a million guests with spectacular shore and water events.

The Curonian Spit is the pearl of the Klaipeda region. It is a unique corner of nature, a creation of sea and wind and the highest, whitest and most beautiful sand dunes in Northern Europe. This patch of land is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are wonderful resorts with white sand beaches and pine forests.

The ornithological station of Vente Rago (founded in 1929) is one of the oldest in Europe. The great bird migration route passes through Ventės cape. There is a museum at this station where you can see the giant bird traps, into which the birds get a Vente “passport” – an almost weightless ring on their leg.
Here you will also see the unique Vente Horn lighthouse – a technical monument protected by the state.

The underground nuclear missile base of the Soviet Union, located in the Ploštinė forest near Lake Platelia, is highly secret. It was built for two years (1960-1962) by 10 thousand. soldiers who dug four 27 m deep missile shafts and a two-story underground control center with shovels. In view of the changing political situation, the missiles were aimed at Western European countries. Currently, a Museum of Militarism has been established at the base, which you can visit and get to know this Cold War fortress up close.
