After successful debut in 2004 for the first time Klaipeda port plans to receive a vessel Constellation that belongs to the company Celebrity Cruises and which is planned to call in May, 2005 and during three calls to bring approximately 8000 tourists.
Constellation having the length of 294 meters will be the longest vessel that has ever called the port of Klaipeda. Presently the longest vessel that called the port was 274 meters long.
This growing field of cruise industry is successfully being developed in the port of Klaipeda. In 2004 the growth in cruise sector increased by 71 %, 48 vessels called the port, i.e. almost twice in comparison with 2003. This year already 57 calls are registered, i.e. by 19 % more than last year.
After the Cruise Vessel Terminal was opened a lot of attention is paid to Klaipeda as the cruise city in order to attract the other structures of this business, subsidies, funds as well as participating in various international projects, for example, Baltic Cruises Port Net.
