The Ist place for Klaipeda Port basketball team at the VIIth Basketball Tournament of the Baltic Ports

The VIIth Basketball Tournament of the Baltic Ports where the basketball team representing Port Authority won the I st place was held on the 23-24 of October, 2009 at the sporting premises of the Port Authority ( Piles str.4)
 
This year basketball teams from 4 Baltic states (6 ports) participated at basketball Tournament of the Baltic Ports: Tallinn from Estonia, Ventspils, Ryga and Liepoja from Latvia, Kaliningrad from Russia and Klaipeda from Lithuania. Kaliningrad basketball team competed for the Challenger Cup for the first time during the whole history of the tournament.
The team of Port Authority, representing Klaipeda Port, is a multi – winner of this tournament – the team has won the Challenger Cup 5 times during the whole history of this tournament.
This international event that has already become a good tradition started under the initiative of Tallinn Port Authority in 2003 in Tallinn. Basketball teams from Ryga, Tallinn, Ventspils, Liepoja, Muga and our town participated in the first tournament, namely at this tournament the Challenger Cup was established. This tournament as a popular event is organized annually in different ports of the Baltic Sea. It is a good possibility not only to contest in sporting fields and to maintain friendly relations but to represent Klaipeda Port either.
In 2010 Ventspils will host this basketball tournament.
