The first in Lithuania “Lighthouse Rally”

On the 26th of October 2013 the Port Authority jointly with Public organization „Festivals of Klaipėda“ launched the first in Lithuania „Lighthouse Rally“, the objective of which is to get acquainted and learn about lighthouses of Lithuania. The participants of the event started the rally at 10 a.m. from the Klaipėda lighthouse (Buriu str.9).

The initiators of this entertainment – educational event invited Klaipeda citizens to form teams and to cover the set route visiting seaside and seacoast lighthouses.

A lighthouse is a tower emitting the light helping the ships to orient at the sea, it farewells the ships to far voyages, helps the ships not to loose their way or to escape running against rocks.

A lighthouse is a light in the darkness romanticized by homesick seafarers longing for their  families.

Due to modern navigation technologies that are designed to pilot ships, the significance of lighthouses has decreased, but they have remained as important symbols of maritime countries or cities.

Organizers of the first “Lighthouse Rally” invited to get acquainted with these symbols of marine culture.
