„The Tall ships Races“ (the new title – „The Culture 2011 Tall ships Regatta“) was officially launched in 1956 and made the great impact on two global tendencies: establishment of National Sail Training Associations worldwide and the launching of other regattas, holidays and festivals related with tall ships. Regatta is a particular event to Lithuania as the year of 2009 was marked by the extraordinary event – for the first time throughout the whole history of the country such a great number of tall ships – totally it was even 99 tall ships – flying the flags of foreign countries called Klaipėda Port.

This year Klaipėda receive 34 tall ships, eight tall ships are of A class type ships, including the largest in the world operating tall ships „ Sedov“ and „Kruzenshtern.“

Director general of Klaipėda State Seaport Authority Eugenijus Gentvilas assures that there will be no any problems concerning the port dues. In 2009 Lithuanian tall ships were not entitled to any port due rebates, but this year all ships was granted the port due rebates. Furthermore, all tall ships was provided free Port services, like electricity, water and gass.

This top event benefits in glorifying Lithuania as the maritime State and creates in the minds of Lithuanians and people from other countries the image of the Port not only as the cargo handling Port but also as the Port of sails.
