The beginning of cruise shipping season of 2008

In May 16 2008 (on Friday) at about 700 a.m. there comes the first cruise liner ASTORIJA to Klaipėda port and will be moored at the quay of Cruise vessel terminal.
Astoria is 164,5 m of length, 22,6 m of width and the draft is 6,2 m with maximum of 500 passengers. Ship agent is UAB „Skelmė“ and UAB „Relita“ serves the tourists. The first liner of the season will be met with Lithuanian national dances and songs. Each passenger will get a postcard with Klaipėda city and port views.
During the cruise season of 2008 – from May 16 to September 24 – 47 cruise vessels will call Klaipėda port. It is anticipated that during cruise season of 2008 the number of cruise passengers will exceed the number of last year. Common global tendency shows that cruise liners are being built bigger and bigger and can accommodate more passengers, so we expect to have less cruise vessels than last year but we anticipate to have more passengers than in 2007.
Klaipėda port is happy with the start of new cruise shipping season and informs all representatives of media that everybody will have possibility to observe the coming of cruise liner to Klaipėda port on the 16th of May (on Friday) at about 700 a.m.
Entrance to the terminal is via the bridge of chains or via AB „Klaipėdos laivų remontas“ central entrance.
