During 2010 KlaipėdaPort handled 31,27 million tons of marine cargo, the total growth of cargo handling volumes made 12,2 % if to compare with the corresponding period of the previous year.
According to cargo handling turnover KlaipėdaPort still remains ahead of neighbouring Riga and VentspilsPorts and gets behind only to Joined Tallinn Port. The common cargo handling volumes of KlaipėdaPort and Butingė terminal equalled to 40,29 million tons in 2010 and exceeded even the total cargo handling result reached by the Joint Port of Tallinn.
The highest increase in cargo turnover during twelve month of this year comparing with the corresponding period of 2009 was reached due to increased handling volumes of natural and chemical fertilizers (+1 773,3 thousand tons), Ro – Ro cargo (+1 0083,0 thousand tons), containerized cargo (+688,7 thousand tons), minerals and construction materials ( +662,7 thousand tons).
In terms of cargo groups the handling volumes of general cargo were the handling turnover reached up to 9 693,0 thousand tons (31,0 percent of total port handling) increased mostly (26,3 percent). Dry and bulk cargo handling increased by 21,6 percent, volumes of this cargo group were 11 771,0 thousand tons (37,6 percent). The handling of liquefied cargo decreased by 6,7 percent, in total 9 809,1 thousand tons (31,4 percent) were handled.
In January – December of this year 6 948 ships, i.e. less by 7,7 percent or by 581 ships comparing to the corresponding period of the previous year, called KlaipėdaPort. The number of passengers equalled up to 321,0 thousand, i.e. more by 18,0 percent comparing with the corresponding period of 2009.
KlaipėdaPort has still maintained its position of the leading Port in containerized cargo handling. 294 954 TEU, i.e. more by 18,9 percent or by 46 977 TEU comparing to the corresponding period of 2009 were handled in KlaipėdaPort in the same period of the last year.
