Reduction of oil spills impact on Baltic Sea environment and development of response operations

On the 2-3 of December 2010 the hotel „ Gabija“ ( Vytauto str. 40/ S. Girėno str 2, Palanga) accommodated the conference „Reduction of oil spills impact of on the Baltic Sea environment and development of response operations“. The Head of Oil Containment and Underwater Works of Fleet Department Aleksandr Nikitin participated in this conference. 
 
The conference „Reduction of oil spills impact on the Baltic Sea environment and development of response operations“ was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania together with the Baltic Coastal Research  and Planning Institute of Klaipėda University.
 
The goal of this event was to promote scientific cooperation of NATO countries and Russia seeking to implement one of the priorities highlighted in the Baltic Sea Region Strategy – safety and security of the Baltic Sea region in order to reduce risks of accident situations and their possible impact on the sea ecosystem, to induce the cooperation of the scientists of Russia and NATO countries and responsible institutions.
 
It was planned to prepare suggestions to NATO – Russia Board Science for Peace and Security allowing to develop response measures designated to enhance reaction to oil spills possibilities securing effectively the Baltic Sea environment and strengthening cooperation between countries.
