On 23-24 October 2008, the 11th International Transport and Logistics Conference “Development of Ukraine’s Transport Strategy. Development of Transport Infrastructure of Ukraine and Adjoining Regions” is scheduled to take place in Odessa (Ukraine).  Artūras Gaidauskas, Head of Representative Office of Klaipeda State Seaport Authority in the Republic of Belarus, will deliver presentation on “Intermodal Transportation on the Baltic Sea – Black Sea Axis: the Potential of Klaipeda Port”.

On 22-24 October 2008, the annual international forum on the Black Sea transport will take place in Odessa (Ukraine).  Under the aegis of this forum two conferences will be held: the 11th International Transport and Logistics Conference “Development of Ukraine’s Transport Strategy. Development of Transport Infrastructure of Ukraine and Adjoining Regions” and the 9th International Shipping and Ship Repair Conference “Sea and Inland Water Transport.  Issues of Shipbuilding, Economic Cooperation and Development”.

The transport and logistics conference, held in Odessa the eleventh time, provides an opportunity for the companies operating in this area to present their potential as prospective, competitive and equal participants.  Each year the conference attracts increasing numbers of attendees.  At present, more than 150 delegates from over 15 countries are expected to take part in the conference.

The discussions during the conference will include issues of logistics: emphasis on importance of the development of logistics centres, analysis of Ukrainian integration in the global international trade and transportation market.  Also, issues of the port development and expansion, utilization of port capacities, development of railway and motorway infrastructure, security, insurance, investment, etc. will be considered.  The key topics of the conference include “Logistics and Management of Logistics Chain”, “Rail Transport”, “Ro-Ro Transportation Development”, “Trends and Changes of Transport Policies”, “Enhancement of Port Facilities and Capacities”, etc.

The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Ministry of Industrial Policies of the Republic of Ukraine, the Black Sea International Shipowners Association (BINSA), the Association of Ports of Ukraine “UkrPort”, the International Dangerous Goods and Containers Association (Russia), the Ukrainian Logistics Association, the Black Sea Region Association of Shipbuilders and Shiprepairers. (BRASS), the Black Sea and Azov Sea Ports Association (BASPA), the European Council of the Ukrainian Carriers, the State Administration of Odessa Region and administration of the city of Odessa.

The cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine has special prospect due to the fact that both countries are linked by a joint project – combined transport train “Viking” connecting the regions of the Baltic Sea and Black Sea. The possibility to use the “Viking” potential as an extension of the transport corridor TRACECA is being discussed, since transport systems of Lithuania and Ukraine are reliable and integral parts of the Eurasian transport network and transcontinental logistics chain.
