PORT AUTHORITY ACQUIRED NEW DIVING BOAT „GELMĖ“

 

When working with one diving boat „RIFAS“(built in 1987) it is impossible to operatively execute underwater quay (as the length of the quays in the port is more than 26 km) and water territory survey. In order to effectively and rapidly execute those works in the port, it was decided to purchase one more new diving boat. On the 3rd of July 2006 – after tender procedures – a contract was signed with Estonian ship building yard BALTIC WORKBOATS AS situated in Nasva port for the building of diving boat.  

 

 

Director General of SE Klaipėda State Seaport Authority Sigitas Dobilinskas said: „Our enterprise has acquired a diving boat equipped with the most modern equipments and will be able rapidly and continuously check the state of the quays and water territory. In this way navigation and mooring operations safety in the port will be ensured. Besides, better conditions will be created for the divers and the crew of a diving boat of Port Authority for the work on this boat“.

 

The new diving boat will sail along the whole water territory of Klaipėda Port. 6 people will work on it: 3 crew members and 3 professional divers. For assurance of safety at work of the divers, air supply system is installed on the boat fit for the work with the most modern diving equipment AH-5. Diving boat „GELMĖ“ is equipped with modern navigation and communication equipment as well as with the means of communication for coordination of underwater works.
