Klaipeda port
1,9 million tons of cargo were handled in Klaipeda Seaport in January 2005, i.e. by 7% more than in the previous month, but by 1,7 % less than in January 2004.
Cargo volume (excluding oil products) handled in January 2005 reached up to 1,21 million tons, i.e. by 4,5 % more as to compare with January 2004.
693 thousand tons of oil products were transhipped in January 2005, i.e. by 10 % less than in January 2004.
Handling of fertilizers increased – 451,1 thousand tons were handled in a month, i.e. by 36 % more than in January 2004, grain handling made 60,6 thousand tons or by 100 % more than during the relevant period of the last year, handling of perishable products – respectively 41,1 thousand tons or by 60 %, metal scrap made 39,8 thousand tons or by 13 %, peat handling – 8,1 thousand tons or by 27%, cement – 6,7 thousand tons or by 22 % more as to compare with January 2004.
11 499 TEU containers were handled in January 2004. It is by 9 % more than in January 2004 and by 27 % more than in January 2003.

During January 2005 393 wagons were loaded and discharged from ships, i.e. by 9 % more than during January of the last year.
The number of road transport means handled in January 2005 made 9454 units; the number is nearly the same as in previous year. Only 7371 units of cargo carrying road transport means (auto trailers, trucks, trailers, roltrailers) were handled in January, i.e. by 6 % less than last year.
In January 2005 Klaipeda Seaport rendered services to 8339 passengers, i.e. nearly the same number as in January 2004.
NEIGHBOURING PORTS
In January 2005 Petersburg Seaport handled 3,73 million tons of cargo, i.e. by 19 % more as to compare with January of the previous year.
Primorsk Seaport transhipped 4,76 million tons of cargo, i.e. more by 64 % than in January 2004.
Riga Seaport handled 1,83 million tons of cargo, i.e. by 9,8 % more than in January 2004.
As to compare with the relevant period of the last year, in January 2004 handling of liquid cargo grew up by 46 %, bulk cargo and general cargo handling grew up very insignificantly, respectively by 2 % and by 3%. In January oil product handling increased by 109 %, road transport means by 55 %, fertilizers by – 78 %, but cargo handling decreased by 31 %, coal handling – by 10 %, timber handling – by 5 %.
