MORE GRAIN AND GENERAL CARGO IN KLAIPEDA PORT

During January – February, 2005 3.67 million tons of cargo were handled, i.e. by 7 % less in comparison with the same period in 2004.
 
2.57 million tons of cargo (excluding oil products) were handled during January – February, 2005, i.e. 8.7 % more than last year.
During January – February handling of grain broke the record equaling 113 thousand tons that in comparison with the previous year was tens of times bigger.
Handling of iron and steel products showed more than double results and in January – February of 2005 made 92.6 thousand tons while in 2004 – 34.1 thousand tons, moreover considerable growth is observed in handling of liquid fertilizers, frozen cargo, fertilizers in bags, cement, and scrap-iron.
Container traffic in January – February, 2005 that made 32 728 TEU, which grew by 45 % in comparison with the same period last year remains an area of strong growth.
Ro-Ro cargo handling remained almost the same, respectively 654 thousand tons in 2005 and 667 thousand tons in 2004.
778 rail wagons were reloaded form ship to ship during January – February, 2005.
 
Butinge SPM in the afore-mentioned period handled 0.61 million tons, i.e. 65 % less than in the same period last year.
