More cargo in the port of Klaipeda

17.71 million tons of cargoes were handled during ten months this year, i.e. 5.7 % more in comparison with the same period in 2004.

 

1.86 million tons of cargoes were handled in the port of Klaipeda in October, i.e. 7.1 % more than in the same period last year.

 

According to cargo type handling of bulk cargo increased (by + 15.9 % up to 5 964.0 thousand tons) as well as general cargo (by + 10.0 % up to 5 898.6 thousand tons), however handling of liquid cargo decreased (by – 6.3 % up to 5 851.5 thousand tons) no matter the fact that handling of liquid fertilizers increased by + 19.0 % up to 983.3 thousand tons in comparison with previous year.

 

During January – October 175 534 TEU containers were handled. Container handling volumes increased by + 24.7 % in comparison with previous year.

 

Handling of fertilizers in the port of Klaipeda increased by + 20.4 % (up to 3 607.0 million tons). While comparing corresponding periods of this year and previous year handling of bulk fertilizers increased by + 19.0 % (up to 2 322.0 thousand tons), packed fertilizers – by + 43.6 % (up to 301.4 thousand tons).

 

The total of grain handled is a 5-fold increase (up to 520.5 thousand tons) during ten months this year, handling of perishable products increased 1.5-fold (up to 391.8 thousand tons), iron and steel (up to 367.7 thousand tons), cement (up to 174.6 thousand tons)
