In April 15, 2005 tripartite grant agreement for implementation of the project “Development and Implementation of Information System for Declaration of Cargoes and Commodities transported via Klaipeda State Seaport” was signed in Vilnius. The agreement was signed by the Information Society Development Committee under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, Central Project Management Agency under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania and SE Klaipeda State Seaport Authority.
Implementation of priority 3 measure 3 “Development of IT services and Infrastructure” of 2004-2006 general programming document of Lithuania will partially be financed from European Regional Development structural funds.
General project goal is to accelerate cargo traffic via Klaipeda State Seaport in order to promote the development of the economy and to enhance the competitive advantage of Klaipeda State Seaport.
Specific project goal is to develop and implement Cargoes and Commodities Information System (CACIS ) that will create conditions for companies operating in the port to interchange electronic data on executing cargo handling .
The project covers all the stages of the development and implementation of CACIS system – from task analysis to testing operation of a developed system and technical maintenance of implemented system.
Aiming that the system maximally corresponded the port society demands, CACIS conception had been prepared in close cooperation with companies and associations operating in the port. Wide scope of consumers will be able to use the system – cargo forwarders and ship agents, stevedoring companies, AB “ Lietuvos gelezinkeliai”, Customs Department and Klaipeda Territorial Customs Office and other state services related to cargo transportation and control.
Following calendar work schedule CACIS testing operation will start in March, 2007.
