On 6 February 2007, at around 5.00 a.m., a Lithuanian fishing vessel LBB 1026 (length 25,5 m, width 7 m) reported to the port dispatcher office of the State enterprise Klaipeda State Seaport Authority that she ran aground beyond the port limits at about 4.5 sea miles southwards off the southern breakwater pier and around 200 metres from the shore.
Following receipt of the mentioned report, the port dispatcher office of the Seaport Authority immediately sent Aleksandr Nikitin, Head of Oil Collection and Underground Operations Department, by cutter “Žaibas” to the scene of the incident, who appraised the situation and contacted the master on board the vessel on the issue of possible evacuation of the crew. As no injuries occurred during the incident and damage to environment did not take place (no spill was noticed), the crew did not wish to leave the vessel, therefore the State enterprise Klaipeda State Seaport Authority gave order to the owner of the vessel Vytautas Malinauskas to promptly start towage operation of the grounded vessel.
The owner of the vessel V. Malinauskas agreed with the divers service firm UAB “Narų servisas” regarding towage of the grounded vessel. The vessel towage operation is scheduled to start without delay.
Representative of the Seaport Authority A. Nikitin, now at the scene of the incident, together with the rescuers and divers will stay on duty until the grounded vessel is tugged off the ground.
