In 2003 Klaipeda port received 28 cruise vessels, that is 16,6% or 4 calls more than in 2002 and 8798 passengers, that is 14,4 % more in comparison with the season of 2002.
Dynamics of the cruise shipping in the Baltic region in the season of 2003:
In Tallinn – 190 ships, i.e. 15% more or 25 calls more than in 2002 and 198 000 passengers, i.e. 49% more than in 2002.
In Riga – 111 ships, i.e. 18% or 17 calls more than in 2002; 79 194 passengers, i.e. 2% more than in 2002.
The country, promoting cruise shipping in Klaipeda from the 1st of July 2002, referring to the act of the Minister of Transport and Communications concerning the application of dues of Klaipeda State Seaport Authority reduced port dues for cruise ships. For example, ship Astoria, (BT 18591) according to the port dues regulations that were in force till the 1st of July 2002, port dues were equal 35 204 Lt, after the 1st of July 2002 – 31 841 Lt, i.e. 10% less.
Klaipeda port dues in the Baltic region for cruise shipping currently is favourable and competitive in comparison with other Baltic ports.
Promoting attraction of Klaipeda seaport for cruise shipping and tourism, participation in an international exhibition – conference Seatrade Europe Cruise 2003 is organized. Klaipeda municipality, tourism information center, Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, cruise business enterprises, ship agents and others will participate in this event.
