Cargo turnover in Klaipeda port grows further on

During January-September 2007, 20,42 million tons of cargo was handled in Klaipėda port. It is by 16,4 percent more than during the same period last year.
The biggest growth of cargo handling volume was reached in handling bulk fertilizers (+42,6 percent), containers TEU (+42,5 percent) and liquid fertilizers (+45 percent) comparing to January-September 2006.
In September 2007 cargo handling increased by 14 percent (2,21 million tons of cargo was handled) , in comparison with September 2006.

During January-September 2007 there grew cargo handling volumes of all types of cargo (general, bulk and dry bulk and liquid cargo.
The growth of liquid cargo volumes was predetermined by the growth of liquid fertilizers handling volumes (during January-September 2006, 0,83 million tons was handled, and during January-September 2007 – 1,21 million tons, by 45 percent more). 5,66 million tons of oil products was handled in the port (by 5 percent more).
Handling of bulk fertilizers and peat increased by 42,6 percent and 16 percent respectively. More than 3,84 million tons of fertilizers was handled (it is the second result after oil products according to cargo handling volumes). During the last months there is observed the growth of other bulk cargo volumes in the port (agricultural products, scrap metal, minerals).
Container handling increased by 42,5 percent, and ro-ro units by 11 percent. Increase of ro-ro units was predetermined by the growth of auto-trailers, trailers, automobiles and trucks handling in Klaipėda port.
During the first nine months the total figure of passengers serve din the port increased by 24,2 percent and made 240,1 thousand.
During cruise shipping season of 2007 cruise vessels called Klaipėda port 66 times; 36,9 thousand passengers came with them (by 52 percent more comparing to 2006 ). It is the most successful season (according to the number of vessel calls and the number of passengers) since the opening of Cruise vessel terminal (2004).
In Būtingė terminal 3,8 million tons of crude oil was handled during January-September 2007 (total handling volume decreased by 16 percent, comparing to 2006).
