CARGO HANDLING IN KLAIPĖDA PORT
March of 2012
2,71 mln. tn of sea – born cargo, i.e. less by 532,5 thou. tn or by 16,4 pct. if to compare with March of 2011 was handled in Klaipėda Port in March of 2012. 100,1 thou. tn of oil were imported via Būtinges Terminal in March of the current year. The handling turnover of oil products that decreased due to the planned in advance Turnaround of Mažeikių oil refinery and oil processing plant made the most significant impact on handling rates of March 2012. In 2012 the average rate of container handling as per month has remained stable. The decrease of container handling rates in March of 2012 was recorded because in March of 2011 the record container handling turnover was registered. This record was achieved due to intentions to change the customs system applied to light vehicles transported to CIS.

General cargoes decreased by -9,2 pct., totally 920,4 thou. tn were handled. Liquid cargo decreased by -45,4 pct., totally 536,1 thou. tn were handled
The handling turnover of fertilizers in May of 2012 was 937,9thou. tn, i.e. less by -11,0 pct. year-on-yearor by 116,2 thou. tn. The handling volumes of oil products in May of 2012 dropped down to 413,4 thou. tn, the year-on-year change is -49,5 pct. or less by 423,2 thou. tn.
The throughput of Ro-Ro cargoin May of 2012 was 416,7 thou. tons of,i.e. less by -2,4 pct. year-on-yearor by 10,1 thou. tn. Calculating in units 22 466 units of this category of cargo, i.e. less by -0,6 pct. year-on-yearor by 137 units were handled in the Port. Volumes of containerised cargohandling (calculating in TEU) were 31 201 TEU, i.e. less by -33,1 pct. year-on-year or by -15 426 TEU. In terms of tonnage the turnover of containerised cargo handling marked a decrease as well. Calculating in tons the drop rate was -18,0 pct. year-on-yearor less by 82,7 thou. tn, in total 376,7 thou. tn were handled.
Throughout May of this year 35 924passengers (including cruise passengers) , i.e. more by 17,5 pct. year-on-yearor by 5 352 passengers visited Klaipėda Port. The number of cruise passengers was 5 572, the year-on-year change is +52,3 pct., or more by 1 913 cruise passengers. 625 vessels, i.e. more by 15,5 pct. year-on-year or by 84 vessels were reported to enter the Port of Klaipėda in May of 2012.
