In April, 2005 the port of Klaipėda handled 1.82 million tons of cargo, i.e. by 10 % more than in 2004 and by 1.2 % exceeds cargo handling results of April, 2003 when the record was broken in cargo handling.
April, 2005 marked the increase of all types of cargo: liquid (+ 13 %), dry bulk (+ 15 %), general (+ 4 %).
Good monthly results made cargo results of the 1rst quarters of 2004 and 2005 almost equal.
7.5 million tons of cargo were handled in the port of Klaipėda in January – April, 2005, vessels carried 5.69 million tons, 1.82 million tons reloaded from the ships.
Handling of oil products that increased by 16 % raises the total handling of liquid cargo as well.
In January – April handling of general cargo increased by 10 %, container throughput increased up to 69912 TEU or by 47 % more in comparison with the same period last year, handling of iron and steel products as well as perishable products considerably increased.
Due to the growth of grain, fertilizers, scrap iron, cement and peat cargo flows the total handling of dry bulk cargo increased by 2 % in comparison with the same period last year.
Services were provided to 39063 passengers in January – April, 2005 in the port of Klaipėda, i.e. by 1 % more than in the same period last year.
Būtingė SPM handled 1.41 million tons of unrefined oil in January – Aprils, 2005.
