Undersigned agreement on construction works at the object “Reconstruction of the southern part of railways within a section from Varnėnų street to Nevėžio street. II stage of construction“

 

 

The aforesaid object is included in the list of state projects for railway transport No. VP2-4.4-SM-01-V-02 implemented under instrument VP2-4.4-SM-01-V „Improvement of technical parameters of state roads and railway infrastructure” under 4 priority “Essential economic infrastructure” within the framework of the programme for economy development of the strategy for the use of the European Union structural assistance for Lithuania in the years 2007–2013.

 

Klaipėda Seaport – the most important and largest Lithuanian transport hub connecting sea and land routes.  Therefore, the issue of adequate interconnection of the port with railway and road transport is of major importance in terms of increase of throughput capacity and competitiveness of Klaipėda.  The programme for Klaipėda railway junction development (until 2015) provides for railway junction reconstruction, widening and straightening of some sections, construction of new railway lines, bridges and viaducts. One of the first stages of the port development includes plans to arrange the railway network in the southern part of the port. The capacity of the single-gauge road used for transportation is insufficient to satisfy  the needs of increased traffic flow; therefore the second parallel 1 km-length railroad has to be constructed. The project of this second parallel railroad complies with the provisions of “Long-term Strategy (until 2025) of Lithuanian Transport System Development“, approved by Decree No. 692 dated 23 June 2005, of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania – to facilitate transportation of both, national and transit, passengers and cargo via water transport and to develop multimodal and intermodal transport modes.  The project also complies with the provisions of the port development plan until 2013.

 

Value and term of the agreement on construction works at the object “Reconstruction of the southern part of railways within a section from Varnėnų street to Nevėžio street. II stage of construction – construction of a railway branch at the existing branch No. 201 from Varnėnų street to Sulupės street“:

value –  6 949 060,84  LTL including VAT,

term – 15 months (456 calendar days) as of the beginning of contractor works.

Contractor works under the present agreement will be started after undersigning of a tripartite agreement on financing and administration of the present project between the Ministry of Transport and Communication of the Republic of Lithuania, the Transport Investment Directorate and the Seaport Authority.
