Review of Cargo Handling in Klaipeda Seaport, at Butingės Terminal and Other Eastern Coast Baltic Seaports

Within the period of January – May of 2016 Klaipeda Seaport cargo handling turnover increased by 7,3 pct. to  16,69 mln tn, i.e.  more by 1 129,7 thou. tn comparing with the corresponding period of 2015.

According to the rankings of the change of cargo throughput estimated in percent (7,3 pct) the Seaport of Klaipeda occupied the 2-nd standing in the list of the Eastern coast Baltic Seaports and according to the increase of cargo handling volumes  estimated in tons (1 129,7 thou. tn) Klaipeda Seaport occupied the 3-rd position in the list.

Year-on-year changes of overall turnover  according to cargo types:

  • General cargo – 5 114,6  thou. tn were handled, +11,1 pct. or +509,3 thou. tn yoy;
  • Liquid cargo – 5 366,6 thou. tn were handled, +23,2 pct. or +1 012,0 thou. tn yoy;
  • Dry and bulk cargo – 6 210,8 thou. tn were handled, -5,9 pct. or -391,5 thou. tn yoy.

2 845 vessels were reported to call Klaipeda Seaport in January – May of 2016, i.e. more by 7,2 pct. or by 190 vessels comparing with January – May of 2015.  The Seaport accommodated 80 427 passengers, i.e., less by 9,1 pct. or by 8 006 passengers.

Cruise shipping. On the 9-th of May, 2016 the cruise season was launched – the Seaport accommodated the cruise liner “MSC Opera”. 5 cruise vessels with 7 370 passengers on board have visited Klaipeda Seaport in May of the current year.
