New cargo handling record has been broken in the port of Klaipėda

General cargo handling has significantly increased.
9,19 million tons of cargo has been handled in the port of Klaipėda during the period starting from January till the end of May in 2005, what makes 3 percent more than during last year‘s corresponding period and it exceeds the results of the year 2003, when the record of the handling has been registered, by 1,6 percent.
In May, if compared to the last year, more liquid cargo and liquid fertilizers have been stevedored and it contributed to the general increase in quantities of handled liquid cargo.
During the period of January- May 2005 handling of general cargo has increased by 8 percent, the containers making the portion of 87728 TEU or by 40 percent more than during the period of January- May 2004. Handling of iron, steel and quickly putrescent products also increased significantly.
Because of increasing grain, dry fertilizers, cement and peat quantities, total handling of dry and bulk cargo has increased by 7 percent in comparison to the last year‘s corresponding period.
More than 59120 passengers or two percent more than last year have been serviced at the port of Klaipėda during the period of January- May 2005.
During the period of January- May 2005 1,68 million tones of cargo has been stevedored in the port of Klaipėda and it makes 20 percent more than during the corresponding period of the year 2004.
Increase has been registered in May 2005 as well as in April per all types of cargo, especially liquid cargo (35 percent more), as well as dry and bulk cargo handling (26 percent more). 3 percent more of general cargo has been stevedored in May.
2,11 million tones of unrefined oil has been handled in the Būtingė Oil Terminal during the period of January- May 2005.
