Klaipėda port further on takes the position of a leader

Following cargo handling documents for January-May 2008 Klaipėda port remains a leader in the Baltic region.  
During January-May 2008, 12,95 million tons of cargo was handled in Klaipėda port. It is by 19,1 percent more than during the same period 2007.
The handling volumes of all types of cargo (general, bulk, liquid and dry bulk) increased during January-May 2008.

The growth of liquid cargo was predetermined by the increase of volumes of oil products handling and they grow further on (during January-May 2008, 4,24 million tons was handled, during January-May 2007 – 3,36 million tons, difference +26,3 percent). The growth of 14,5 percent is fixed in liquid fertilizers handling (during the first five months  662 thousand tons of liquid fertilizers was handled).
The growth of bulk and dry bulk handling volumes were predetermined by the increase of agricultural products handling (3,1 times), raw sugar (2,2 times), alloys (+64,9 percent) and bulk fertilizers (+25,5 percent).
Comparing to the same period last year, there is observed the growth of handling volumes of containers (from the point of view of tonnage) (+23,3 percent), timber and forestry products (+15,3 percent). There decreased the volumes of molasses (–61,9 percent), packed peat (–55,0 percent), scrap metal (–13,4 percent), ro-ro cargo (from the point of view of tonnage) (–9,6 percent) and packed natural and chemical fertilizers (-9,2 percent) in Klaipėda port.  
Container handling increased by 20,9 percent (in  TEU), and ro-ro units handling decreased by 2,9 percent comparing to January-May 2007.
During the first five months the total number of passengers decreased by 3,8 percent and made 79,2 thousand.
In May 2008, 2,5 million tons of cargo was handled in the port, i.e. the monthly volume increased by 8,4 percent, comparing to May 2007.

12,78 million tons of cargo was handled in Tallinn port during January-May 2008 (-31,8 percent difference comparing to the same period 2007). According to the types of cargo there decreased stevedoring volumes of bulk and dry bulk cargo by 70,5 percent or by 3,94 million tons, liquid cargo–by 18,5 percent or by 2,04 million tons, and general cargo increased by 4,8 percent or by 70,4 thousand tons. The biggest part in the total cargo structure of Tallinn port made liquid cargo, i.e. 70,4 percent.
928 cargo vessels called Tallinn port during January-May 2008 and during the same period 2007 – 1325 ships (difference –30,0 percent).
During the first five months 2,54 million passengers visited Tallinn port and during January-May  2007 – 2,19 million (difference +16,2 percent).
 
12,75 million tons of cargo was handled in Ventspils port during January-May 2008and during the same period 2007 – 13,24 million tons. Liquid cargo handling increased by 2,1 percent, i.e. 8,41 million tons of cargo was handled. General cargo handling decreased by 14,9 percent (0,91 million tons was handled), bulk and dry bulk cargo – by 12,6 percent less than during the same period 2007 (3,43 million tons). According to the types of cargo there mostly grew stevedoring volumes of metal constructions (2,6 times), ammonia (+43,5 percent), grain (+42,9 percent) and coal (+13,8 percent in Ventspils port. Stevedoring volumes of the main transit cargo – oil products and bulk fertilizers – were the following: oil products – 7,15 million tons (+4,7 percent), bulk fertilizers – 0,90 million tons (- 44,4 percent) during January-May 2008.
73 thousand tons of containerized cargo was handled in Ventspils port during January-May 2008 (last year 68 thousand tons). The number of passengers further on decreases, i.e. during the first five months there were 7,56 thousand passengers in Ventspils port (by 48,5 percent less than during the same period last year). During January-May 2008 906 ships called the port (22 ships more than during the same period 2007).
 
11,97 million tons of cargo was handled in Riga port during January-May 2008, i.e. by 15,7 percent more than during the same period 2007. There further on grow stevedoring volumes of bulk and dry bulk cargo (+31,5 percent) or 7,84 million tons, i.e. by almost 1,88 million tons more than during January-May 2007. Coal handling volumes increased by 1,52 million tons or by 37,4 percent more, grain +154,5 thousand tons or 2,3 times more than last year. Coal handling made 46,7 percent of the total turnover of Riga port.
There decreased liquid cargo volumes during January-May 2008  (–3,1 percent), comparing to the same period last year and made 2,05 million tons. Oil products handling which makes 99 percent of the total volume of liquid cargo, decreased by 3,2 percent.
General cargo volumes in Riga port further on decrease and 2,08 million tons of them were handled (-8,1 percent than January-May 2007). According to the types of general cargo timber made 0,96 million tons (–23,6 percent), and containerized cargo made  0,79 million tons (+6,1 percent).
During the first five months of this year 128,7 thousand passengers visited Riga port and during the same period 2007 – 103,7 thousand (difference +24,2 percent).
 
1,92 million tons of cargo was handled in Liepaja port during January-May 2008 (+13,0 percent than in 2007). According to the types of cargo there increased the volumes of liquid cargo by 25,9 percent (during January-May 2008 0,46 million tons was handled), bulk and dry bulk cargo volume increased by 7,5 percent (during January-May 2008, 0,81 million tons was handled), general cargo volumes increased by 12,0 percent comparing to the same period last year).
Cargo handling results of the main types of cargo handled in Liepaja port during January-May 2008 were the following: oil products +7,9 percent or  290,2 thousand tons, grain +32,0 percent or 604,2 thousand tons, timber +4,6 percent or 232,3 thousand tons, containers remained in the level of last year (26,5 thousand tons were handled), and metals –17,3 percent
( 233,4 thousand tons) less than during the same period of  2007.
