Klaipėda port is participating in the biggest cruise exhibition „Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention 2008“ in Miami

 

In March 10-13 2008 Lithuanian national delegation for the fifth time is participating in annual biggest world cruise shipping exhibition and conference „Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention 2008“ in Miami (USA). Lithuania will be presented in its national stand (area  18 m²) and Klaipėda city and port cruise business enterprises: SE Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, PE Klaipeda Tourism and Culture information centre, UAB „Limarko jūrų agentūra“, UAB „Klaipėdos Mėja“ and AB „Klaipėdos laivų remontas“. Lithuanian national stand will be full of maritime and national topics. The visitors will get acquainted with Klaipėda port cruise services and its novelties, excursions and infrastructure. Members of the delegation have prepared special publications, souvenirs, and national Lithuanian treats.

               

                For the first time the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania  Algirdas Butkevičius and the delegation consisting of State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Alminas Mačiulis, Head of EU and International Affairs Department of the Ministry of Transport and Communications  Andrius Kalindra and Director General of SE Klaipėda State Seaport Authority Sigitas Dobilinskas. Then delegation will also meet the representatives of cruise lines, visit Miami port and municipality.

               

                On the 11th of March 2008 at 12 ⁰⁰ h Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania Algirdas Butkevičius will say a word for the participants and guests of the exhibition  on the occasion of restoration of independence of Lithuania on the 11th of March. The Ambassador of Lithuania in the USA and Mexico HE Audrius Bruzga and the attaché for economics Dr. Dalia Kadišiene will also take part at the meeting.   

 

                The main goal of the participation in „Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention 2008“ is – to increase cruise vessels and passenger calls to Klaipėda port presenting the cruise lines, travel agencies and potential passengers the attractiveness of Klaipėda region by informing about new tourism services, Klaipėda port infrastructure and rebate system of port dues for cruise vessels.

 

                For the promotion of Klaipėda as cruise city special attention is paid: after  2004 successful debut in exhibition and conference „Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention“  Celebrity Cruises company vessel Constellation (the length of which is  294 m) came to Klaipėda and now the negotiations are going on concerning the bigger cruise vessel Solicity (with the length 315 m) calling Klaipėda port.

 

                The Director General of SE Klaipėda State Seaport Authority Sigitas Dobilinskas said: „…it is pleasant that the policy of cruise shipping inducement strategy is being executed by our enterprise and it gives good results. I hope that the new Passenger and Cargo Terminal which is going to be constructed, the efforts of Klaipėda municipality and cruise companies, reduced port dues for cruise vessels will open wider possibilities for the development of cruise shipping in Klaipeda“.
