During January-May 2007, 10,86 million tons was handled in Klaipėda port. It is by 13,6 percent more than during the same period last year.
The biggest growth was observed in handling cold products (+46,8 percent), bulk fertilizers (+44,5 percent), containers (+40,1 percent) and ro-ro units (+17,8 percent)during January-May 2007 in comparison with the same period last year.
In May 2007 cargo handling increased by one fifth (or by 2,29 million tons), in comparison with 2006. It is the biggest cargo handling monthly growth during the whole history of independent Lithuania.

The biggest growth was observed in handling general and liquid cargo during January-May 2007 and handling of bulk cargo decreased by 1,5 percent.
The growth of liquid cargo handling was predetermined by the growth of oil products handling (3,0 million tons was handled during January-May 2006 and during January-May 2007 – 3,4 million tons, change +11,0 percent). Liquid fertilizers handling increased by 29 percent, but it made only a small part (from the point of view of tonnage) of total liquid cargo handling volume.
Handling of bulk fertilizers and peat increased by 44,5 percent and 30,5 percent respectively. More than 1,99 million tons of fertilizers was handled (according to the total volume of turnover it is the second result after oil products handling)
Container handling increased by 40 percent and ro-ro units – by 18 percent. Increase of ro-ro units handling was predetermined by the growth of handling of auto-trailers, trailers, automobiles and trucks in Klaipėda port.
During the first five months of this year the total number of passengers served in the port increased by 30 percent and made 82,3 thousand.
In May 20 cruise shipping season started in Klaipėda port – as the first cruise vessel called the port. During May month 10 cruise vessels visited the port with 5,2 thousand passengers.
1,8 million tons of crude oil was handled in Būtingė terminal during January-May 2007. Though during April there was handled the biggest monthly volume of crude oil (508 thousand. t), the total turnover of this type of cargo decreased by 10 percent in comparison with 2006.
