Kick-off meeting of the Motorways of the Seas project “Klaipėda – Karlshamn“ within the framework of the TEN-T programme was held in the Seaport Authority

 

 

In June 2008 Klaipėda State Seaport Authority together with Kalshamn port (Sweden) submitted an application for partial financing to Motorways of the Seas project “Klaipeda– Karlshamn“ within the framework of TEN-T (Trans-European transport network) programme; within scope of the project the Port Authority has provided for installation of a hydraulic ramp for Ro-Ro ferries.

The main aiml of this project – to invest in order to increase the capacities and efficiency of Klaipeda and Karlshamn ports by transporting as more as possible cargo by sea and in this way to decrease traffic on roads and significantly improve regional communication and access.

 

Investments within scope of the abovementioned project will not only increase the sea and railway cargo flows in the Baltic Sea region – more cargo will be transported by sea and in this way there will decrease traffic on roads and congestions as well as air pollution and noise. Besides, economic benefit will be significantly greater than the sum of investments. The estimated social and economic impact of this project will be realised in terms of increased port capacities – what will allow companies of the region to save funds and time and will also increase the attractiveness of the region for the companies intending to start business in these regions.
