Incident at quay No. 46 of „Klaipėda Ship Repair Yard“ PLC

On 14th November, 2008 at 2:20 PM a cabin was set on fire while performing welding works onboard the vessel “Grey Whale” lying along quay No. 46, which is operated by „Klaipėda Ship Repair Yard“ PLC.
 
On 14th November, 2008 at 2:20 PM, a notice was received by dispatcher on duty of SE Klaipėda State Seaport Authority that a cabin was set on fire while performing welding works in the bow area of repaired vessel “Grey Whale” (length: 94 m, beam: 15,9m; trading under the flag of Comoros islands), lying along quay No. 46.
The vessel „Grey Whale“, owned by the company „Morskaja zvezda“ from Russian Federation Kaliningrad city, is lying along quay operated by the company “Klaipėda Ship Repair Yard“ .
Having received the aforesaid notice, the Dispatcher Office of SE Klaipėda State Seaport Authority immediately informed the officers in charge of the Emergency Management Centre. Officers of Klaipėda city Fire and Rescue service also immediately arrived to the place of incident.
A notice on incident was issued to the Port Authority’s rescue ship on duty „Šakiai“, which was waiting in readiness to join the firefighting forces if the need arises.
 
Fire was extinguished on 14th November, 2008 at 2:55PM.
