21,49 million tons of cargo was handled in Klaipeda port during January-November 2006. It is by 9,3 percent more than during the same period 2005.
The biggest rates of growth during the eleven months of this year were reached in handling bulk fertilizers (29,7 percent.), ro-ro units (23,4 percent)and oil products (20,7 percent)in comparison with the sae period last year.

The growth of oil products volumes predetermined the increase of liquid cargo handling (during eleven months of 2005 5,23 million tons were handled and during January-November 2006 – 6,31 million tons, change – +20,7 percent).
Increasing volumes of bulk fertilizers, scrap metal and peat had the greatest influence for the growth of bulk and dry bulk cargo handling. During January-November 2006 3,47 million tons were handled (in 2005 – 2,67 million t) or by 29,7 percent more bulk fertilizers and 0,59 million t (in 2005 – 0,55 million t) or by 7,1 percent more scrap metal.
Container handling (TEU) increased during the last four months by 6,3 percent and it allowed to exceed the total container handling figure during the same period last year. During November 2006 22,5 thousand TEU was handled and it is the biggest monthly figure.
Permanently growing transportations of trailers, auto-trailers, automobiles and trucks predetermined the increase of ro-ro units handling in Klaipėda port (change + 23,4 percent).
Handling volumes of fertilizers – bulk, liquid and packed – were the biggest in November 2006 in comparison with other months of 2006. 448 thousand t, 155 thousand t and 41 thousand t were handled respectively.
The total figure of passengers has grown by 11,8 percent and made 226,3 thousand passengers during eleven months of this year.
The tendency of serving bigger tonnage vessels was observed in Klaipėda port too. Though this year there called less vessels to Klaipėda port (5,7 percent less), the total volume of cargo handled in the port increased by 9,3 percent.
