During January-July of 2004 12.04 million tons of cargo were handled in Klaipeda port, i.e. 4.6 % less than at the same time of 2003.
During July 1.5 million tons were handled in Klaipeda port, i.e. 22 % less than last year. The results of July were predetermined by the decrease of oil products, sugar, liquid fertilizers as well as timber regarding unfavourable conditions in the market and seasonal factor. As a consequence of “Achema” repair works, the decreased liquid fertilizers flow influenced the total cargo handling result of seven months.
In July, 2004 15620 containers were handled in Klaipeda port – the biggest container handling result once more achieved during the whole port history. During seven months already 93 thousand TEU have been handled and that is 33 % more than last year.
Ro-ro cargo volumes are further increasing. During January-July of 2004 4333 wagons were carried by ferries and that is 54 % more than last year; 87032 road vehicles were carried and that is 9 % more than last year.
Passenger flow is also increasing. During January-July of 2004 services were rendered to 83742 ferries passengers (i.e. 20 % more than at the same time of 2003) and 9549 cruise passengers, i.e. 76 % more than last year.
