During January-February 20074,09 million tons of cargo was handled in Klaipėda port. It is by 13,7 percent more than during the same period 2006.
The biggest growth was observed in liquid and general cargo and the volumes of bulk cargo decreased by one tenth during January-February 2007.

The growth of liquid cargo handling was predetermined by the increase of handling volumes of oil products (in January-February 2006, 1,04 mil t was handled and during January-February 2007 – 1,34 mil t, change +29,1 percent).Comparing to last year there grew the handling volumes of scrap metal (2 times), cold cargo (+40,9 percent), bulk fertilizers (+39,9 percent), packed fertilizers (+38,5 percent ), handling of ro-ro cargo increased by 29,1 percent (from the point of view of tonnage) and container handling by +31,5 percent (from the point of view of tonnage). Agricultural products handling decreased by 73,8 percent, raw sugar –72,7 percent, minerals by –68,0 percent and alloys by –39,0 percent in Klaipėda port.
Container handling increased by 22,6 percent, and ro-ro units by 21,8 percent. The increase of ro-ro units handling was predetermined by the growth of the number of trailers, auto-trailers and trucks in Klaipėda port.
During the first two months of this year the total figure of passengers served in the port grew up by 21,9 percent and made 24,1 thousand.

According to cargo handling volumes Klaipėda port is in the fifth place in the market of the eastern Baltic Sea ports, bypassing the port of Riga.

7,49 million tons of cargo was handled in Tallinn port during January-February 2007 (by 16,2 percent more in comparison with the same period last year). According to the type of cargo handling of bulk cargo increased by 37,2 percent, general cargo – by 0,8 percent or by 74 thous.t more, and liquid cargo by 8,4 percent or by 343 thous.tons more. Liquid cargo makes the biggest share in the total structure of Tallinn port, i.e. 59,1 percent.
509 cargo ships called Tallinn port during January-February this year and during the same period of 2006 there called 506 vessels (+0,6 percent).
4,69 million tons of cargo was handled in Ventspils port during January-February 2007 and during the same period of 2006 – 4,85 million tons. According to the type of cargo liquid cargo decreased by 10,5 percent, 2,84 million t of bulk and dry birių by 11,1 percent more or 1,46 million t, general cargo – by 7,8 percent more or by 0,38 million t. According to the nomenclature of cargo there grew handling of crude oil (+360 thous. t) and coal (+101 thous. t) in Ventspils port. During January-February 2006 crude oil was not handled at all in Ventspils port. Cargo handling tendencies of main transit cargo – oil products and bulk fertilizers – are different: there were less volumes of oil products – by 22 percent less, and fertilizers – by 18,3 percent more.
23 thous.tons of containerized cargo was handled in Ventspils port during January-February 2007 (13 thous.t last year) and 4,3 thousand passengers (by 1,4 times more than in 2006).
During January-February 2007 3,66 million tons of cargo was handled in Riga port, i.e. – by 3,6 percent less than last year. There decreased handling of all types of cargo. Bulk and dry bulk cargo made the biggest part of the handled volumes – more than 2,11 million t, or by 5,3 percent less or by 117 thous. t less than during the same period last year. Bulk fertilizers handling made 92 thous t or by 37,2 percent more than last year. Handling of coal decreased by 15 percent or to 1372 thous. T and made 37,6 percent of total cargo handling volume.
800 thous.t of general cargo was handled in Riga port or by 1,8 percent more than during January-February last year. According to nomenclature of general cargo handling timber made 422 thous. t (by 10,2 percent less), containerized cargo – 262 thous. t or by 3 percent less. Liquid cargo handling volumes decreased by 4,3 percent during January-February 2007 in comparison with the same perios last year and made 747 thous. t.
During the first months of 2007 22,3 thous. passengers were served in Riga port and during the same period 2006 there were only 2,4 thousand (increased by 8,4 times).
0,62 million tons of cargo was handled in Liepaja port during January-February 2007 and it was by 2,5 percent less than during January-February 2006. 109 thous.t of liquid cargo was handled in the port or by 14,9 percent less than during the same period last year, bulk and dry bulk cargo made 299 thous. t (by 12,5 percent more). The growth of this type of cargo was predetermined by the growth of handling of agricultural products and building materials.
General cargo decreased from 243 thous. t in 2006 to 213 thous. t in 2007 (change –12,3 percent). According to nomenclature of cargo they handled less timber (-43 thous. t).
