The Ministry of Transport and Communications has celebrated its 85th anniversary.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania celebrated the 85th anniversary of its establishment. On this occasion the worthy people from Klaipeda state seaport authority were honoured by giving nominal gifts and citations.
From the very first days after the announcement of the restoration of independence in Lithuanian in February 16th 1918 it was thought about the establishment of the transport system as one of the main independent branch of national economy. In November 4th 1918 the presidium of the Country Council authorized professor Augustinas Voldemaras to form the Cabinet that was approved in November 11th. The first Minister of Transport and Communications was appointed Martynas Ycas.
One of the main parts of the transport economy is the port of Klaipeda that is under the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
The task of the Klaipeda port strategy is to make the port attractive, safe for shipping, convenient for cargo handling and storage. Each year huge investments are committed to gates’ reconstruction, dredging works of harbour entrance and near the berths, to purchase modern cargo handling technique and to provide better storage conditions.
Modern ship traffic management, people rescue and salvage systems are implemented, method to fight against spilled oil secured in the port of Klaipeda. The port territory is always watched by video cameras.
The objective of Port authority and the enterprises operating in the port is to remain the leader of the Eastern Baltic ports, an attractive and convenient port for clients.
