Volumes of container and ro-ro cargo are steadily increasing

1.9 million tons of cargo were handled in the port of Klaipeda during January, 2005, i.e. by 7 % more than the last month, but by 1.7 % less than in the corresponding month in 2004.

Handling of fertilizers increased – 451.1 th. tons were handled this month, i.e. by 36 % more than in the corresponding month in 2004; handling of grain – 60.6 th. tons or by 100 % more than in the corresponding month last year; handling of perishable products – respectively 41.1 th. tons and by 60%, metal scrap 39.8 th. tons and by 13 %; peat – 8.1 th. tons or by 27 %; cement – 6.7 th. tons or by 22 % more than in January, 2004.

 

11 499 TEU containers were handled in January 2005, i.e. by 9 % more than in the corresponding period last year.

Volumes of Ro-Ro cargo increased as well. During January 2005, 393 items or by 9 % more railway wagons were carried by ferries in comparison with the corresponding month last year; 9 454 road transport vehicles were carried, i.e. by 2 % more.
