In January and February 2006 Klaipeda Port handled 3,62 million tones of cargo, which is less by -1,3 percent in comparison to 2005 and less by -8,3 percent in relation to the same period of 2004.
In terms of cargo types amount of liquid cargo handled was 1 272,4 thousand tons (-4,9 percent down in relation to 2005, -25,5 percent less than in 2004), amount of dry and bulk cargo handled stood at 1 229,9 thousand tons (-1,0 percent less than in 2005, and correspondingly -2,3 percent less than in 2004), amount of general cargos handled was 1 121,8 thousand tons (+2,9 percent up in comparison to 2005, and +13,8 percent more than in 2004).

Comparing the cargo handling figures for January-February 2006 with the same period of the previous year the amount of forage handled grew 2,8 times, grain and soy meal 1,7 times, also growth of +32 percent was fixed for Ro-ro cargo and +16 percent container handling (in term of tonnage).
In January and February 2006 amount of road vehicles handled was 24 580 units (change +21,8 percent) and 35 742 (change +9,2 percent) TEU containers.

1 228 ships called at Klaipeda Port in January-February (-5 percent less than in January-February 2005), number of passengers serviced was 19,7 thousand (by +19,4 percent more in comparison to January-February previous year).
Amount of oil handled at Būtingė Oil Terminal January and February 2006 was 305,9 thousand tons.

Throughout the first two months of this year the port of Tallinn handled 6,44 million tons of cargo (+2,8 percent change in comparison to the same period of 2005). In terms of cargo type, dry bulk cargo handling grew by +51,3 percent or 571 thousand tons, general cargo +8,8 percent or 55 thousand tons, while amount of liquid cargo handled decreased by –10,0 percent or 451 thousand tons.
Cargo handling figures for the port of Ventspils in January and February 2006 were 4,85 million tons, i.e., the equal amount to the corresponding period of 2005. In terms of cargo type, amount of dry bulk cargo handled was -19,0 percent, correspondingly 1,32 million tons, general cargo increased 3,4 times to 0,36 million tons and liquid cargo increase was by +2,0 percent to 3,2 million tons.
In January and February 2006 the port of Riga handled 3,8 million tons of cargo, which is +1,4 percent more in relation to January-February of the previous year. Handling of dry bulk cargo accounted for the larger share of the total equalling 2,22 million tons, this amount exceeded the same period last year amount by +12,4 percent or 245 thousand tons. Amount of chemicals (mineral fertilizers) handled was 149 thousand tons or -37,4 percent less than the previous year.
Amount of general cargo handled in the port of Riga was 785,0 thousand tons (-22,1 percent down in comparison to January-February of the previous year). Turnover of liquid cargo for January-February increased by +4,2 percent in comparison to the previous year and amounted to 781 thousand tons including 771 thousand tons of oil products (+7,6 percent).
Amount of cargo handled in the port of Kaliningrad throughout the first two months of this year was equal to 2,41 million tons (-7,1 percent down in relation to the same period of 2005). In terms of cargo type increase of +3,5 percent or 53,4 thousand tons was fixed only for liquid cargo bulk of which is made of oil products, whereas dry bulk cargo and general cargo handling amounts decreased. Turnover of dry bulk cargo stood at 345 thousand tons (–20,9 thousand tons less than in January-February of 2005). Reduction of general cargo turnover (figure for January and February 2006 was 475 thousand tons while for January-February of 2005 – 717,6 thousand tons) was caused by lower amounts of timber handled.
Amount of cargo handled in the port of Liepaja in January and February 2006 was 637,8 thousand tons, which is less by -7,3 percent than in January-February of 2005. Handling of liquid cargo amounted to 128,1 thousand tons or 10,9 percent more than in January-February of 2005, liquid cargo – 266,1 thousand tons (growth of +67,5 percent in relation to the corresponding period of the previous year). The negative change was conditioned by decreased amounts of ro-ro cargo, ferroalloys and fertilizers via the port of Liepaja.
