Growth of liquid cargoes resulted from increasing oil products handling (in the first nine months of 2005 amount of oil handled stood at 4.28 million tons while in January-September 2006 – 5.39 million tons). Turnover of molasses handling has grown 3.8 times (handling in January-September 2005 amounted to 21.7 thousand tons and in January-September 2006 – 82.6 thousand tons).
Increased cargo flows of bulk fertilizers, scrap metal and peat had a major impact on growth of bulk and dry cargo handling. In January-September this year Klaipeda port handled 2.68 million tons (figure for 2005 was 2.07 million tons) of bulk fertilizers, an increase of +29.7 percent, and 0.52 million tons (figure for 2005 was 0.50 million tons) of metal scrap, an increase of + 4.8 percent.
Increase of Ro-ro units (change + 23.6 percent) was generated by growth of handling of trailers, highway freighters and trucks in the port of Klaipeda.
The container handling (TEU), which increased in August and September, made it possible to surpass the total handling amount for the nine months by 4.9 percent in relation to the last year.
