During January-March 2007 6,32 million tons of cargo was handled in Klaipėda port. It is by 12,6 percent more than during the same period 2006.
The biggest growth during January-March 2007 was reached in handling bulk fertilizers (+45,2 percent), containers (+32,8 percent and Ro-ro units (+20,7 percent) in comparison with the same period 2006..
In March 2007 cargo handling increased by one tenth ( 2,23 million. Tons of cargo was handled), comparing to 2006. It is the biggest monthly turnover during the whole history of independent Lithuania.

The biggest growth was observed in handling general and liquid cargo during January-March 2007 and the volumes of bulk cargo decreased by one tenth.
The growth of volumes of liquid cargo was predetermined by the increase of oil product handling (During January-March 2006 1,7 million tons was handled, and during January-March 2007 – 2,0 million tons, change +17,1 percent). Handling of molasses increased by 38 percent, but it made only a small part (from the point of view of tonnage) of the total volume of liquid cargo.
The increased handling of bulk fertilizers, peat and scrap metal by 45,2 percent, +10 percent and +9,4 percent respectively. More than1,18 million tons of fertilizers was handled (according to the total cargo turnover it is the second result after oil product handling.
Container handling increased by 32,8 percent, and ro-ro units by 20,7 percent. The increase of Ro-ro units was predetermined by the growth in handling auto-trailers, trailers, automobiles and trucks in Klaipėda port.
During the first three months of this year the number of passengers serve din the port increased by 25,3 percent and made 38,8 thousand.
Būtingė terminal handled 0,91 million tons of crude oil during January-March 2007 and it is the same volume as it was during the same period 2006.
