During January-March 2007 6,32 million tons of cargo was handled in Klaipėda port. It is by 12,6 percent more than during the same period 2006.
During January-March 2007 the biggest growth was observed in handling general and liquid cargo and the volumes of bulk cargo decreased by one tenth.

In March 2007 cargo handling increased by one tenth (2,23 million tons of cargo) in comparison with 2006. It is the biggest monthly volume during the whole hystory of independent Lithuania.
The growth of liquid cargo volumes was predetermined by the growing volumes of oil products handling (during January March 2006 1,7 million t of oil products was handled, during January-March 2007 – 2,0 million tons; change – +17,1 percent). Molasses handling increased by 38 percent, but it made a small part (from the point of view of tonnage) from the total volume of liquid cargo. Comparing to last year, there grew the handling volumes of packed fertilizers (+53,7 percent.), bulk fertilizers (+45,2 percent), refrigerated cargo (+29,3 percent), peat (+11,8 percent), scrap metal (+9,4 percent), and there also grew the volumes of ro-ro units by + 27,6 percent (from the point of view of tonnage) and container handling by + 44 percent (from the point of view of tonnage). Raw sugar decreasd by – 88,3 percent, agricultural products –69,4 percent, minerals –56,8 percent and alloys by –24,5 percent in Klaipėda port.
Container handling increased by +32,8 percent, and ro-ro units +20,7 percent. The increase of ro-ro units was predetermined by the growth of autotrailers, trailers, automobilis and trucks handling in Klaipėda port
During the first three months of this year the total number of passengers served in the port increased by 25,3 percent and made 38,8 thousand.

According to the volumes of cargo Klaipeda port remains in the fifth place in the market of eastern Baltic ports leaving Riga port behind.
