Cargo handling in Klaipėda and neighbouring ports during January-July 2007

                      During January-July 2007 15,65 million tons of cargo was handled in Klaipėda port. It is by 14,4 percent more than during the same period last year.
                      During January-July 2007 there grew handling volumes of all types of cargo (general, bulk and dry bulk).

                      During July 2007 cargo handling volumes increased by one third (2,52 million tons of cargo was handled), in comparison with 2006 (it is the biggest monthly figure in the history of independent Klaipėda port).
The growth of liquid cargo volume was predetermined by the growth of liquid fertilizers handling (during January-July 2006 0,62 million tons was handled and during January-June 2007 –  0,85 million tons, change +37,2 percent). Oil products handling remained in the level of last year (during first seven months of this year  4,6 million tons was handled). Comparing to last year, there grew handling volumes of packed fertilizers (1,8 times), bulk fertilizers (+53,5 percent), peat (+37,8 percent), cold cargo (+30,6 percent), timber products (+25,1 percent), metal and steel products (+11,1 percent), there also increased ro-ro units handling by 15,7 percent(from the point of view of tonnage)and container handling by 50,5 percent (from the point of view of tonnage. There decreased handling of raw sugar by 80,9 percent, molasses by45,8 percent, alloys by 36,1 percent, agricultural products by 23 percent and minerals by 10,7 percent in Klaipėda port.  
Container handling increased by 42 percent, and ro-ro units –  by 15 percent. The growth of ro-ro units was predetermined by the increase of auto-trailers, trailers, automobiles and trucks handling in Klaipėda port. During July 21,7 thousand ro-ro units was handled (it is the biggest monthly volume in 2007).
                      During the first seven months of this year the total figure of passengers who came to the port by ferries increased by 25 percent and made 161,7 thousand. During the second month of summer almost  44,7 thousand passengers came to the port (it is the biggest figure during 2007).
During May-July cruise vessels called Klaipėda port 44 times; 20,3 thousand passengers came with them (it is by 44 percent more in comparison with 2006).

24,33 million tons of cargo was handled in Tallinn port during January-July 2007 (+1,1 percent, comparing to the same period 2006). According to the types of cargo, there decreased bulk and dry bulk cargo handling by 0,3 percent or by  20 thousand tons, general cargo increased by 7,8 percent or by 214 thousand tons and liquid cargo by 0,5 percent or by 80 thousand tons. The biggest share in the total structure of Tallinn port cargo made liquid cargo i.e. 60,5 percent.
During January – July this year 1771 cargo vessels called Tallinn port and during the same period last year – 1792 vessels (change –1,2 percent less).
 
During January-July 2007 18,84 million tons of cargo was handled in Ventspils port, during the same period 2006 – 16,88 million tons. There grew cargo handling of all types of cargo: liquid cargo by 11 percent more, bulk and dry bulk by 11,86 million tons or by 17 percent more, general cargo by 5,48 million tons or by 3 percent more, respectively 1,50 million tons. According to the types of cargo there increased handling of crude oil (+639 thousand t), oil products  (+537 thousand tons) and grain (+232 thousand tons) in Ventspils port. Handling of the main transit cargo  – oil products and bulk fertilizer– was the following: oil products – 9,88 million tons in 2007 (+5,8 percent), bulk fertilizers  – 2,18 million tons (+34,9 percent).
During January-July this year 94 thousand tons of containerized cargo was handled in Ventspils port and 31 thousand passengers were served (by 5,2 percent more than in  2006).
 
During January-July 2007 14,98 million tons of cargo was handled in Riga port i.e. by 1,4 percent less than last year. There decreased handling of bulk and dry bulk cargo. The biggest share of cargo made bulk tons and dry bulk cargo – 8,7 million tons or by 7,6 percent less or by  713 thousand tons less than during the same period last year. 325 thousand tons of bulk fertilizers was handled in the port or by 39,7 percent more than last year. Handling of coal decreased by 13,6 percent or to 5,84 million tons and made 39 percent of the total cargo handling volume.
3,32 million tons of general cargo was handled in Riga port (it is by 12,4 percent more than during January-July last year). According to the types of general cargo timber handling made 1804 thousand tons (+1,2 percent), and containerized cargo – 1075 thousand tons (+2,7 percent). The volumes of liquid cargo during January-July 2007 increased by 4,5 percent, in comparison with the same period last year and made  2,94 million tons.
During the first seven months of this year 241 thousand passengers visited Riga port and during the same period 2006 – 130 thousand passengers (increased by 1,9 times).
