Klaipeda Port turnover grows rapidly

During January-October 2007 22,8 million tons of cargo was handled in Klaipėda port.
The biggest cargo handling growth during January-October 2007 was reached in handling bulk fertilizers (+46,3 percent), agricultural products (+45,5 percent),timber and timber products (+45,5 percent), container units (+43,0 percent) comparing to the same period of 2006. Such rapid cargo handling growth in Klaipėda Port was predetermined by: the growth of bulk fertilizer volumes (580 thousand tons), during October it was the biggest volume in comparison with the other months of this year, growth of handling volumes of agricultural products (200 thousand tons ) and cold cargo handling volumes.
Cargo turnover during October 2007 increased by 26 percent (2,38 million tons of cargo was handled), comparing to October 2006. Liquid cargo handling volumes remained in the level of 2006 because due to the repair works at Butinge terminal in October AB „Klaipėdos nafta“decreased export volumes.

During January-October 2007 there grew cargo handling volumes of all types of cargo (general, bulk and dry bulk cargo).
The growth of liquid cargo volumes was predetermined by the growth of liquid fertilizer handling (during January-October 2006 0,95 million tons was handled and during January-October 2007 – 1,32 million tons, by 39,6 percent more). Oil products handling reached 6,09 million tons (by 4,5 percent more).
Handling of bulk fertilizers and agricultural products increased by 46,3 percent and 45,5 percent respectively. More than 4,42 million tons of fertilizers was handled (it is the second result after oil products handling). During the last months there is observed the growth of other bulk cargo handling volumes (agricultural products, alloys, minerals, timber products).
Container handling increased by 43 percent and ro-ro units – by 9 percent. The increase of ro-ro units handling was predetermined by the growing volumes of auto-trailers, trailers, automobiles and trucks in Klaipėda Port.
During ten months of this year the total number of passengers serve din the port increased by 21,3 percent and made 257,03 thousand.
