On the 6th of March 2008 at about 9 p.m. when the ferry „Tor Corona“ was leaving the port, due to supposing unsuitably chosen speed there were impeded tankers mooring at jetties No 1 and No 2 (operator – AB „Klaipėdos nafta“) „Valle di Nervion“ and „Anishkov Bridge“.
The dispatcher on duty of SE Klaipėda State Seaport Authority got a notice from the dispatcher’s office of AB „Klaipėdos nafta“ that at jetties No 1 and No 2 there was an incident on the 6th of March 2008 at about 9 p.m. Though the wave height behind the breakwaters reached 4 m, the hydro-meteorological conditions were good. As we may assume AB „DFDS LISCO“ the Captain of 187,06 m length ferry „Tor Corona“ (flying a flag of England) chose a low speed and the current pressed the ferry to 83,3 m in length tanker „Anishkov Bridge“ (flying a flag of Liberia) which was mooring at jetty No 2 and slightly damaged the hull of it. After a manoeuvre to sail back and then sail forwards the ferry ploughed into 175,9 m in length tanker „Valle di Nervion“ (flying a flag of Italy) back part and knocked a hole.
The ferry „Tor Corona“ suffered as well – in the bulb of a ferry there was knocked a hole of 20-30 cm.
After this incident oil spillage was not fixed. Investigations go on at the moment. The loss will be evaluated when the conclusions of incident are submitted.
