An object similar to an explosive device found near Quay No. 143A

On 27 October 2008 (Monday) at about 12.55 p.m., the Port Dispatcher office received a message from the Port Authority diving boat “Rifas” that an object reminding of an explosive device had been found at the depth of 9-10 metres alongside quay No. 143A while performing underwater operations, its visible part being approx. 5.5 m long and approx. 0.6 m. wide.
Having received the above message the Dispatcher’s office of Klaipeda State Seaport Authority informed immediately the officers of the Management Centre of Emergency Situations and relevant authorities of the city.
At the moment the vessel traffic is limited in the vicinity of the whereabouts of the found object, the fire-fighting service has arrived and sapper unit is expected.
