On 9-10 February, 2010 a kick-off meeting of the international project SMOCS (Sustainable Management of Contaminated Sediments in the Baltic Sea) implemented within the framework of the Baltic Sea Region programme for the years 2007–2013 took place in Linköping (Sweden); the meeting was attended by the environment specialist of the port Development department Valerija Portapienė and project manager of the port Development department Rasa Stalnionytė.
The aim of the project SMOCS Sustainable Management of Contaminated Sediments in the Baltic Sea) – to establish the latest methods for management of contaminated sediments in order to reduce seabed contamination and water pollution; to ensure wider range of marine biodiversity; to reduce the quantities of hazardous substances in fish and aquatic organisms. These innovations shall correspond to the HELCOM action plan for Baltic Sea.
The issues of project administration and financing, undersigning of partner agreements and other relevant issues were discussed during kick-off meeting of the project SMOCS .
