On the occasion of European Maritime Day – Klaipėda Ships Parade

On the occasion of the European Maritime Day, Klaipėda Ships Parade took place in the Klaipėda Seaport on 22 May 2010.
 
The objective of the Klaipėda Ships Parade– to create, on the occasion of the European Maritime Day, a new European event in a maritime city which would officially open the summer shipping season, give an opportunity to present maritime business and the companies operating within the port to the general public using unconventional measures.
 
During the event, regatta “Gero vėjo!“ (“Go with the wind!“) started in the Curonian Lagoon, bridges „Pilies“ and „Biržos“ were raised, and the ship “Meridianas“ was sent off, Military and Public Unity Day was celebrated (visits to ships, exhibitions of armament and military techniques, etc.), the Navy Orchestra, music band “Viksva“ performed concerts. People had a possibility to visit ships that moored at the quays of river Danė and Pilies port, to sail into the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea. “Ship battle“ took place in the Curonian Lagoon at the mouth of river Danė. Concerts were organized in the decks of ships. The event ended with the Nocturnal ships parade and the final concert.
 
Three ships of the Seaport Authority (“Žaibas“, “Gelmė“ and “Mingė“) as well as ships, yachts, pleasure boats, small ships, etc. of the port companies, companies and individuals from other cities participated in the Nocturnal festive music ships parade in the river Danė and the Curonian Lagoon. Nominations were created for the ships that stood out in different categories of ships.
