Jun 30 2010
On 30 June 2010 (Wednesday) at 11.10, ship “Lord Byron“ unmoored from the quay of fertilizer terminal of SC Klaipėda Stevedoring Company “KLASCO“. She is the first dry cargo vessel in Klaipėda port that was given permission from the Harbour Master to leave after loading up to 13 m draft.

“This is a very important day for “KLASCO“ and for the whole Klaipėda port. As of today, we are able to load larger ships which resulted in increase of competitiveness of the whole Klaipėda port in the region. Until now, actual maximum vessel draft at “KLASCO“ quays  was 12,5 m“, – said Director General of “KLASCO“ Audrius Pauža.

According to the director, the Seaport Authority keeps its promise and, having completed the required dredging works in the port entrance channel, increased the permissible maximum draft of vessels. Depending on the type of vessel, the above measures will allow increasing the quantity of cargo loaded per one ship by approx. 3-5 thousand tons.
„This loaded ship shows that “KLASCO“ and Klaipėda State Seaport Authority keep their promises to the customers“, – said A. Pauža.

“Lord Byron“, registered in the Marshall Islands (length 225 meters, beam 32 meters) transported 64,8 thousand tons of company’s „Belarus Kalij“ bulk fertilizers. This year, the largest exporter of Belorussian fertilizers plans to increase the quantity of fertilizers handled via Klaipėda port twice – almost to 4 million tons.

Up to now the largest amount of transported potassium fertilizers amounted to 77,8 thous. tons – this cargo loaded onboard the vessel “Aghios Makarios“ by SC Klaipėda Stevedoring Company “KLASCO“ was shipped from Klaipėda port in the end of January, 2010.
