Anniversary international jogging competition “Gintarinė jūrmylė 2010“

International jogging competition “Gintarinė jūrmylė“ – is a sports and health project created by the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority and Klaipėda County athletic federation, which traditionally takes place on the second Saturday of October. This event which turned into a great tradition is not only a sports event. Having brought together thousands of jogging enthusiasts and professionals, children, youth and elderly runners over its short lifetime, the present event is an excellent representation of Klaipėda, its marine traditions; it fosters sports and healthy lifestyle.

 

Anniversary event “Gintarinė jūrmylė“ has already got its regular participants, volunteering organizers, records and record-breakers. The aim of the organizers is that every resident of Klaipėda city, region together with the runners of neighbouring countries would reach the distance of nautical mile – 1852 meters. Professional male runners are suggested to cover 6 nautical miles, female runners – 3 nautical miles. The names of the winners of these distances are inscribed in the 6-ton memorial stone, which was pulled out from the bottom of lagoon during the dredging of port waters. All participants who completed the distance are awarded with certificates.  Furthermore, many runners are awarded with special souvenirs of “Gintarinė jūrmylė“.
