Nov 13 2010

The head of the Port Dispatchers‘ Office Aleksandras Kaupas participated at the international conference „The International Sail Training and Tall Ships Conference 2010“ that was held on the 12 and 13 of November of 2010 in Stavanger (Norway). During the conference results of this year were generalized and organizational issues of the next year ships races were discussed.

It is planned that the tall ships of „The Culture 2011 Tall Ships Regatta“ will come to Klaipėda to participate in a four day festival.
„The Tall Ships Races“ officially launched in 1956 induced the establishment of national sail training   associations worldwide and promoted the organization of many tall ships races, holidays and festivals. After several years the races gained such a big popularity that many countries worldwide started to organize them.  „The Tall Ships Races“ fleet increased from to 22 ships in 1956 to more than 100 participants in the last years.
These races are extremely relevant to Lithuania as the final stage of last year races took the root Turku-Klaipeda on the 31st of July to the 3d of August. 99 tall ships called Klaipėda port in 2009. „ The Tall Ships“ races is a particular event to Lithuania : the first time throughout the whole history of the country such a large number of tall ships carrying the flags of foreign countries simultaneously called the Klaipėda port. This top level event contributed to glorification of Lithuania as the maritime state and in the conscious of our citizens and people from foreign countries created the image of the port not only as the port performing cargo handling operations but also as the port of tall ships.
