Port Authority is already 20
This year KlaipėdaState Seaport Authority, the enterprise administrating KlaipedaPort that was established in 1991, celebrates the 20th anniversary of its performance. Being the only port of Lithuania Klaipeda is vitally important to our country. Its operations and rendered services create economic and social welfare both to Klaipėda town and Lithuania. The Port cherishes maritime traditions, takes care of maritime heritage and strengthens worldwide the image of Lithuania as the marine state.
On this occasion the Port Authority is planning to launch over 20 diverse social, educational and entertainment projects aimed at presentation and demonstration of Klaipeda history, Port possibilities, development plans, to induce the interest in Klaipėda Port and the activity of Port Authority, to present Lithuania as the maritime state.
From the 1st of February everybody is invited to test their knowledge on the website of Klaipėda Port www.portofklaipeda.lt in the contest „Prove that You know the Port best – answer the questions most promptly!“. Every week 3 contest participants that will provide the mostly prompt answers will receive souvenirs and at the end of the month 5 luckiest draw winners will be determined.
The journey over the largest Lithuania towns will start with the specially created exhibition of photographs „Klaipėda Port: the journey to the present“. Exposition features diptychs of large format photographs – reflections of old and new Port illustrating the conversion of the Port and the dynamics of its performance. The first stop of the exhibition will take place on the 2-18 of February at the library named after I. Simonaitytė in Klaipėda. Later it will move to Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Kaunas and Vilnius public spaces until eventually exposition will return to Klaipėda on the celebration of the Sea Day of Europe and thus it will accomplish the cycle of Port Authority anniversary events.
For the sake of strengthening the image of Lithuania as the maritime state the contest for Lithuanian schoolchildren „Lithuania at the Sea“ on drawings, essays and creation of the words for Port song/ hymn will be organized. The schools of Lithuania are welcome to submit three best works of pupils in the groups of 5-7, 8-10 and 11-12 school grades. Works selected by Port Authority will be exhibited on the website www.portofklaipeda.lt.
Works that will receive the largest number of voices of the website visitors will be included into the album issued on this special occasion. Authors of the best works will be granted with special commemorative presents of Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, certificates of Appreciation and albums dedicated to this anniversary. The author of the best essay will be provided the exclusive possibility to present his/her work at the international conference that will be held on the 20-th of May. During the final event that will take place on the 21st of May the port hymn will be sung by the most popular Lithuanian singers.
The public event designated to Klaipėda citizens and quests of the town will be the final one in the cycle of gala events. The participants of this holiday will enjoy diverse attractions, sports events, gala concerts and other entertainments.
In line with gala events the page of Klaipėda State Seaport Authority will be launched on a social website „ Facebok“. Information on pending contests and events will be constantly updated within a symbolic diary of events. Photographs and video material will be uploaded and diverse contests for page visitors organized on the “Facebook”.
